General

  1. All competitions shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and with the Local Rules as may be approved by the Competition Committee.
  2. All players must have Amateur Status in accordance with the current Amateur Status Regulations of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, must be female and must have one of the following qualifications:
    1. a member of an affiliated Staffordshire Ladies’ Golf Club who has paid her annual subscription to the Association.
    2. County membership as permitted by the Association and the E.L.G.A.
  3. All entries shall be submitted on official entry forms and must reach the Hon. Competition Secretary by the date on which entries close. Late entries will not be accepted. Entry fees will not be returnable for any reason, with the exception of unsuccessful applicants who are balloted out.
  4. All matters relating to the competition shall be settled by the Committee, whose decision shall be final. The Committee reserve the right to refuse an entry without assigning a reason.
  5. It will be obligatory for all competitors to play with a ball that is named on the current R. and A. or U.S.G.A. list of approved golf balls.  No XXX allowed.  Penalty for breach of Rule - DISQUALIFICATION.
  6. Competitors may not engage a Professional or Assistant Professional Golfer as a caddie. Penalty for breach of Rule - DISQUALIFICATION.
  7. Use of golf buggies in County competitions will be allowed subject to the conditions laid down by the County Management Committee.(See separate section below) Penalty for breach of Rule - - DISQUALIFICATION.
  8. Any entrant not producing her current handicap certificate on registering for the event may be subject to - - DISQUALIFICATION..
  9. All entrants must have held a qualifying handicap on the day designated as the closing date for entries. A player whose handicap has increased above the limit shall play off the limit for the competition.
  10. In the event of an entrant being unable to compete, any substitute must have held a qualifying     handicap on the day designated as the closing date for entries.
  11. Any competitor who is not on the first tee at her advertised time of start renders herself liable to disqualification under Rule 6-3. In the absence of circumstances which would warrant the waiving of the penalty of disqualification under Rule 33-7, if the player(s) arrive(s) at the starting point, ready to play, within five minutes of the allocated starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is either loss of the first hole to be played in match play, or two strokes in stroke play, instead of disqualification. The Competition Committee shall have the power to delay the time of start of any competitor or competitors.
  12. Play to be from LGU. tees.
  13. Any competitor shall not knowingly make use of any drug to enhance her performance.  In this respect the attention of competitors is drawn to the proscribed list of drugs issued by the Sports Council, a copy of which is available on request.  Any competitor infringing this condition or if asked to do so, refusing to take a test may be disqualified.
  14. All Cups/Trophies to be held for one year.  Responsibility for engraving shall lie with the winning clubs/individuals.
  15. All events to be played over 18 holes with the exception of the Championship Qualifying Rounds.
  16. All ties to be decided on the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes and then hole by hole starting at the 1st hole(with the exception of the Championship Qualifying Rounds).

All References to Handicaps in these Rules and Conditions shall be deemed to be Playing Handicaps and not Exact Handicaps

Use of Buggies in S.L.C.G.A. Competitions

Golf buggies may be used in County competitions by players who have a disability due to a physical or medical condition that has a sustained and long term effect.

The player must provide a valid current medical certificate from a medical practitioner (together with any additional information that the Committee considers necessary in the circumstances).

The player should:

a) request permission, in writing, to use a buggy by the closing date for that competition

and

b) provide the valid current medical certificate of disability on the day of the competition.

Conditions Of Use

A player using a buggy must agree to the following conditions of use:-

  • The buggy must be operated with courtesy, care and consideration for the safety and convenience of others and the user must comply with instructions displayed on the buggy.
  • The buggy shall be for the sole use of the player and her equipment.
  • The player should book the buggy with the club in advance.
  • Should there be fewer buggies available at a club than have been requested, they will be booked on a ‘first come first served basis’.

County Championships

As Rules and Conditions (General) 1 - 14 inclusive.

  1. The handicap limit is 20

Entries will be limited to the lowest handicaps should the event be oversubscribed.

The Championship shall consist of two 18 hole Qualifying Rounds.

The players returning the 16 lowest scores shall qualify for the match play stages, which will be played over the next two days. The draw shall be made according to the automatic draw.

All ties shall be decided on the last 18, 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes, and, in the event of a further tie, over the same holes of the first round.

THE VISCOUNTESS LEWISHAM CUP - shall be awarded to the Championship winner.

THE RUNNER-UP PLATE - shall be awarded to the Championship runner-up.

THE WEDGWOOD BOWL - shall be awarded to the Championship leading qualifier, providing she competes in the match play stages.

Other prizes/vouchers shall be awarded.

All Other Competitions

As Rules and Conditions (General)1 to 16 inclusive and other prizes/vouchers shall be awarded.

Silver Division

  1. The handicap limit is 20.
  2. Scratch Team Event (best aggregate gross score) - clubs may nominate more than one team of three players and if a player has to withdraw a club may substitute another player in her place providing she had not already been nominated for a team. In the event of a team being withdrawn any player(s) specified for that team may be used as a replacement in another team. The winners shall be decided by the combined total.
  3. Handicap Team Event (best aggregate nett score) - as above with the winners decided by the combined nett total.

THE BRIDGET JACKSON SALVER - shall be awarded to the player with the best nett score.

THE STAFFORDSHIRE CUP- shall be awarded to the club whose three (team) players return the best aggregate gross score

THE MAY EVERSHED CUP - shall be awarded to the club whose three (team) players return the best aggregate nett score.

Bronze Division

  1. The handicap limit is 21 to 36.
  2. Handicap Team Event (best aggregate nett score) - clubs may nominate more than one team of three players.  If a player has to withdraw a club may substitute another player in her place providing she has not already been nominated for a team.  In the event of a team being withdrawn any player(s) specified for that team may be used as a replacement in another team. The winners shall be decided by the combined nett total.

THE CHALLENGE BOWL - shall be awarded to the player with the best nett score.

THE WILLIAMSON CUP - shall be awarded to the club whose three (team players) return the best aggregate nett score.

Bronze Alliance

  1. The event shall be played in teams of three as a Stableford Alliance, off full handicap allowance with the best two scores counting.  Players who cannot score must pick up their ball.
  2. The handicap limit is 25 to 36.
  3. Entries shall normally be submitted in teams of three. However, should any member wish to apply on an individual basis every effort will be made by the Hon. Competition Secretary/Competition Committee to provide her with playing partners.

THE STAFFORDSHIRE ROSEBOWLS - shall be awarded to the team returning the best aggregate Stableford score.

Spring Foursomes

  1. The event shall be played as a Medal Foursome.  The combined handicap limit is 50 with the stroke allowance half the combined handicaps.  Entries are restricted to those members having a handicap plus to 30.

THE BERYL SNAPE AND KAY DENHAM SALVERS - shall be awarded to the pair returning the best nett score. An additional prize shall be awarded for the best gross score.

Autumn Foursomes

  1. The event shall be played as a Stableford Foursome.  The combined handicap limit is 55 with the stroke allowance 7/16 of the combined total. Entries are restricted to those members having a handicap plus to 34.

THE MAY EVERSHED PLATES - shall be awarded to the pair returning the best Stableford score.

Mactier Cup

  1. Entries are restricted to those members having a handicap plus to 36, and whose County membership is through that club.
  2. Each affiliated club shall hold their own qualifying competition and set their own entrance fee. Each club is entitled to send two players to the Final - one each from the Silver and Bronze Divisions
  3. The closing date for entries is the 31st July in any year.
  4. The competition shall be played as a Stableford event.  The stroke allowance is full handicap.

THE MACTIER CUP - shall be awarded to the player with the best Stableford score.

Jubilee Greensome

  1. The event shall be played as a Stableford Greensome. The combined handicap limit is not more than 60 and not less than 30 with the stroke allowance 7/8 of the Greensome Medal Handicap.
  2. Each pair shall be a Lady member playing with a Junior girl member, one of which must be a Bronze Division player i.e.; Handicap 21 – 36. The two players need not be from the same club.

Prizes will be awarded to the best two Stableford scores returned.
