At our last meeting in March the anomaly of the EWGA having an ELGA Trust was pointed out and the question was raised as to whether the Trust will be changing its name. The Operational Board Minutes of 9th April state that the renaming of the ELGA Trust to the EWGA Trust is presently being dealt with by the Charities Commission.
In my previous report I referred to the Championship, Venues and Rules of Golf Committee reviewing the conditions of competition of the regional competitions, with a view to trying to standardise the format across the regions for 2009 events. As part of that procedure anyone competing in regional competitions this year will be asked to complete a questionnaire covering such things as the level of the entry fee and preference with regard to the format.
In my previous report I also stressed the importance of keeping both the county secretary and myself informed of changes to a delegate’s details and we will duly inform EWGA of any changes so that the EWGA database is always accurate. Personal email addresses of club delegates will not appear on the EWGA website. Any other changes to your club’s details should be sent to both Pam Siviter, the county secretary, and to Kerry Udall at EWGA, whose email address is

When EWGA was incorporated as a limited company the Articles of Association were inadvertently worded in a way that gave every individual member the right to be notified directly of all general meetings. This would be prohibitively expensive and legal advisers have suggested that the most efficient and timely solution is for the voting members of EWGA {i.e. the County Associations} to pass a resolution to authorise EWGA to notify affiliated golf clubs of general meetings, instead of having to notify each individual member. County Associations will be asked to signify their agreement to the resolution in the very near future.
Production of a new members pack is presently being dealt with by the Chief Executive of EWGA who is in the process of collating ideas and suggestions. It is hoped that the costs can be covered by sponsorship and clubs will receive a copy in due course.
For those clubs wishing to run 9 hole qualifying competitions I am aware that the office has been inundated with applications for 9 hole SSS. Around 500 have been issued to date and, as there is a backlog, there are still many more to be done.
As from 2009, the LGU will not be offering LGU medal competitions for club golfers. EWGA will be responsible for medal finals and it has been suggested by the operational board at their April meeting that two finals per region should continue. Also, as from 2009, there will no longer be an LGU handbook, as the LGU’s responsibilities will be the Great Britain and Ireland teams, the Curtis Cup, the Vagliano and the British Ladies Open and there will be no involvement with club golfers.
Finally, EWGA has completed a questionnaire from the USGA to enable them to ascertain whether there is support for golf to be included in the 2020 Olympics.
