County AGM 2009 Hon Competition Secretary's Report

Another year has drawn to a close, thankfully without any problems. The Spring Foursomes held at Enville Golf Club was a great start to our golfing calendar with almost a full field of competitors taking part. A most enjoyable day for all.

The County Championship held at Druids Heath Golf Club was once again a very successful and enjoyable event for both players and spectators. The weather, although dry, was very windy and made for difficult playing conditions. The final this year was contested by Julie Brown from Brocton Hall and Bronwyn Davies from Wolstanton with Julie securing a 2 & 1 win to become the County Champion.

The Jubilee Greensome held at Penn Golf Club was once again a day enjoyed by all those who took part. After the last two years when entries had been slowly improving, this year was very disappointing with fewer entries than ever. I realise that not all clubs have many juniors, if any, but I urge the ladies of those clubs who do have some juniors to ask them to take part in this competition - I am sure you will have a good day.

The Bronze Division Meeting held at Ingestre Park Golf Club was a very successful day and it was very pleasing to have a record number of entries this year. I hope that this will continue in future years.

The Bronze Alliance held at Aston Wood Golf Club was also very satisfying with the most teams we have ever had taking part. Unfortunately the weather was against us at this event with thunderstorms raging all around us for most of the day. We did, however, manage to get to the end of play with almost all competitors completing the course.

The Silver Division Meeting held at Sandwell Park Golf Club was a good day for all those who took part, however, the number of entries this year was the worst I have known in the six years since I have been organising this competition with only 61 entries. Numbers of entries have been declining over the past few years, so, please ladies, we need your support to make these events successful.

The Mactier Cup was held at The Craythorne Golf Club. A good day despite very windy conditions which resulted in some very tired faces and low scores.

The Centenary Competition held at Swindon Golf Club was also a successful day with a good number of entries. The weather was kind to us with some good spells of sunshine.

The Autumn Foursomes held at Great Barr Golf Club was a great day enjoyed by all. Entries for this competition, however, were down on previous years and I look forward to next year when hopefully we will see an increase in entries.

The County Am-Am held at Trentham Park Golf Club was a very successful day and enjoyed by both County Reps and Club Players.

Congratulations go to all the prize-winners of these competitions and my thanks once again to all of you who took part. Without you our competitions would not be the successful days we enjoy so much.

Copies of all the competition results along with the competition dates and venues for 2010 have been circulated this morning. Anyone who has not received a copy then please see me after the meeting.

The Interclub Knockouts and Scratch Leagues have once again run smoothly and been played in good spirit.

The Interclub 12-24 final was played at Little Aston between Beau Desert and Aston Wood. The winners of the Perry Cup were Beau Desert.

The Interclub 25-36 final was played at Druids Heath between Ingestre Park and Little Aston. The winners of the Inter-club Shield were Little Aston.

The winners of the Scratch Cup in Division 1 were Enville. Congratulations to all the clubs who gained promotion in Divisions 2 through to 7.

We would like to thank Little Aston and Druids Heath for once again granting us courtesy of their courses for these matches at short notice.

Many thanks go to Judy Brock for all her hard work during this year in organising the Scratch Leagues and Interclub Knockouts. Well done, Judy, you have done a great job once again.

Thanks also go to Bridget Locke for all her hard work in organising the Am-Am. This was Bridget's first year in running this event and did so very professionally. A good day was had by all. Thank you Bridget.

Finally, my thanks go to Vicky Thomas for all the hard work she does as our Fixture Secretary. Vicky does a great job every year in arranging the courses for all of our Ladies and Junior competitions and all the matches for our County Teams. Vicky has recently undergone her second hip replacement operation and our good wishes go to you for a speedy recovery.

I have once again enjoyed immensely my year as your Competition Secretary and would like to express my sincere thanks to all the Lady Captains and Ladies from all the clubs I have visited for our competitions this year. I have enjoyed meeting and working with all of you and would like to thank you for all your hard work and assistance on these competition days.

We are extremely grateful to all of you for raising so much money in your raffles to help our County Teams. I look forward to seeing all of you again at our competitions in 2010 and hopefully some new faces too.
