I am pleased to report that ratings have been completed on 12 Staffordshire courses this year and I fully expect to complete the outstanding 10 next year. All paperwork has been completed at our end and Rating Certificates should be issued early in 2010.

A number of courses in this batch will find that their Standard Scratch has changed - some up and some down. If your course is one of them, please remember that it is not necessary to throw out any existing cards with the current Standard Scratch printed on them. As long as your computer system is amended to reflect the new Standard Scratch and therefore correctly apply handicaps, old cards may be used.

The date of introduction of the new Standard Scratch will appear on the certificate and does not apply retrospectively.

Unfortunately I am not at liberty to divulge which courses have changed so you will have to wait for the certificates.

Once again my thanks to the courses for their co-operation and hospitality and to my team of helpers who make the task of rating a pleasure.

The EWGA Handicap committee agreed at their meeting on October 30th 2008 to adopt the new procedure for commencement in 2010 on qualifying scores returned in 2009. As I was in South Africa Majorie Leece and Sandra Fraser attended a seminar in January at the EWGA offices in Edgbaston about these changes and the EWGA Medals. The County Area Authority then held a meeting in April at Brocton for all club handicap secretaries and another member of their committee to impart this information directly to them.
