The Nellie Wood Trophy

Held at Bloxwich Golf Club on Monday May 14th 2012

Would all participants please be aware that, due to the winter rules that were in place on the day, this competition is a non-qualifier.

The results, including those for the Vintage Salver, will be put on the web site when our secretary returns from holiday.

The Staffordshire Veteran Ladies' Golf Association are very sad to report the death of Dot Deeley. Dot suffered a severe stroke last Friday, April 20th and a decision to turn off her life support system was made the following Monday evening.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to daughter Louise and Dot's brother and sister, Peter and Susan.

Dot's first term of office on the SVLGA Committee was from 2000 to 2003. Her second term of office was when she was our Lady Captain in 2007. She then re-joined the Committee for another three years from 2009 to 2011.

Her smile, warmth and charm will be sadly missed.

NELLIE M WOOD

Mrs Nellie Wood was a member of Trentham Park Golf Club and was Lady Captain in 1930. She played a very active part in the County during the 1920s and 30s winning the Staffordshire and Williamson Cups.

In 1928 the County Championship was held at Trentham Park and Nellie Wood was part of the winning team. During the war the Ladies Club ceased until September 1945 when Mrs Wood, together with four other ladies, reinvigorated the section. Her participation continued after the 2nd World War when she held the position of County Representative for many years.
