Nintey-three intrepid Senior lady golfers converged on Vilamoura for the Portuguese Senior Ladies' Golf Championship from January 25th until 27th. Many of the competitors stayed at the 5 star Tivoli Marina Hotel overlooking the harbour.

Gill Snelson, Branston and Jenny Cordon from Leek flew the Staffordshire flag. Gill played in Division One and Jenny in Division Three but for the 4ball better-ball Jenny had to scale the dizzy heights of Division One to join Gill in the battle against the Victoria course and some very competitive opponents.

Although the weather was not very kind and the courses were all very wet the golf was of a very high standard. Gill and Jenny acquitted themselves well with 4th position in the Nett and 5th in the Gross 4ball better-ball.

Jenny went on to play again at the Victoria course while Gill played the tight and beautiful Old course. After two days of intense concentration and some good, bad and ugly golf, Jenny came 2nd in the Nett competition in Division 3 and Gill came 10th in the first Division.

Although the weather was not at its best both players had a fabulous time, although in the sauna and steam room at the Hotel the attitude to 'dress' was quite different as the German males proceeded to take off all of their clothes much to amusement of Gill and Jenny!!!
